Assessment instruments

  • AutonomyAssessment instruments

Autonomy is the need to feel a sense of choice and ownership over one's own actions, satisfied when a person feels they're acting on their own volition, and frustrated when they feel controlled or pressured.

    Part of BPN

    Unmet vs. actively frustrated

Satisfaction and frustration are measured separately here on purpose. A role can leave autonomy merely unmet, offering little independence but no active interference, or it can actively frustrate it, through micromanagement or constant override.

    How it shows up

High autonomy satisfaction shows up as ownership: initiative taken without waiting for permission. High autonomy frustration shows up as resentment toward oversight that feels unnecessary.

    Why it matters at Mappa

A mismatch on autonomy is one of the more common, quiet reasons a capable person disengages from work they're objectively good at.

Find out how much ownership you actually need.
