Assessment instruments

  • GentlenessAssessment instruments

Gentleness is a mild, lenient approach to judging others, and reluctance to criticize.

    Part of Agreeableness

    What it’s about

It's the facet most about how someone evaluates other people's mistakes, distinct from forgiveness, which is about what happens after a specific harm.

    How it shows up

High gentleness tends to assume good intent and soften critical feedback. Low gentleness is more willing to call something out plainly, which can read as harsh even when it's accurate.

    Why it matters at Mappa

Gentleness affects how feedback lands when it's someone else's turn to receive it, and mismatches here are a common source of friction between a manager and a report.

Find out how gentle your judgment of others really is.
