Assessment instruments

  • OpennessAssessment instruments

Openness describes how much a person appreciates beauty and ideas, seeks out new experiences, and is drawn to unconventional people or approaches.

    About ambiguity and novelty

Of the six HEXACO factors, Openness is the one most tied to how someone relates to ambiguity and novelty, as opposed to how they relate to people or to structure, which is covered elsewhere in the model.

    How it shows up

High Openness tends to be comfortable in unstructured, fast-changing work and drawn to ideas outside the mainstream. Low Openness tends to prefer established methods and can find constant ambiguity genuinely draining rather than stimulating.

    Why it matters at Mappa

Openness is a strong signal for how comfortable someone will be in ambiguous, fast-changing work, and just as strong a signal for how uncomfortable the same person might be in highly structured, repetitive work.
