Assessment instruments

  • EnneagramAssessment instruments

The Enneagram is a system describing nine interconnected personality types, arranged in a circular diagram, with roots in spiritual and philosophical traditions rather than empirical psychology.

The Enneagram has a devoted following in coaching and personal-development contexts, but it wasn't developed through the factor-analytic research that modern trait models were built on, and it has little presence in peer-reviewed psychometric literature as a validated measurement tool.

    How it shows up

The Enneagram shows up most often as a personal reflection or coaching exercise, where someone identifies with a type's described motivations and fears.

    Why it matters

A tool built for reflection and conversation is a different thing from a tool built and tested to predict behavior, and the two shouldn't be assumed to do the same job.

See what a tested, predictive measure looks like.
