Assessment instruments

  • Goal-directed behaviorAssessment instruments

Goal-directed behavior is the ability to keep working toward a goal while experiencing a difficult emotion, rather than having it derail the task at hand.

    Part of DERS →

This facet is specifically about the intersection of feeling and doing: not whether someone feels less under pressure, but whether the feeling stops them from finishing what they started.

    How it shows up

High goal-directed behavior can push a deliverable through despite being frustrated or anxious about it. Low goal-directed behavior finds the same emotion genuinely derails the task, not just the mood.

    Why it matters

This is often the most work-relevant facet in DERS, since most jobs don't require calm, they require output despite the absence of it.
