Speech & model terms

  • Confidence flagSpeech & model terms

A confidence flag marks a result produced from limited or lower-quality input, signaling that it should be read with more caution than a result from a longer, cleaner recording.

Short or noisy recordings produce less reliable estimates than long, clean ones, and a responsible system says so rather than reporting every result with equal certainty. The flag is typically advisory: the result is still produced and reported, just marked, rather than the system refusing to respond at all.

    How it shows up

A thirty-second, noisy clip and a forty-minute clear conversation can both produce a result, but only one of them should carry the same weight in a decision, and a confidence flag is what makes that difference visible.

    Why it matters

A system that reports every result with identical confidence, regardless of input quality, isn't being careful, whatever its underlying accuracy happens to be.
