Assessment instruments

  • BIS inhibitionAssessment instruments

BIS inhibition is sensitivity to cues of punishment, threat, and potential negative outcomes, and the tendency to stop or avoid in response.

    Part of BIS/BAS

    The counterpart system

It's the counterpart system to behavioral activation, tuned to risk rather than reward, and independent of it.

    How it shows up

High BIS inhibition notices what could go wrong early and adjusts course to avoid it. Low BIS inhibition is less likely to register the same warning signs, or to slow down in response to them.

    Why it matters at Mappa

BIS inhibition is a useful counterbalance signal, particularly alongside fun-seeking and prudence, since it shapes whether someone's appetite for opportunity is paired with an instinct for caution.
