Assessment instruments

  • Negative affectAssessment instruments

Negative affect is the extent to which someone generally experiences distress, tension, and unpleasant engagement.

    Part of PANAS

    A baseline, not a reaction

Like positive affect, this is a baseline, not a response to any specific bad event. It tracks how much background tension someone carries as a rule.

    How it shows up

High negative affect can find ordinary friction more distressing than the situation objectively warrants. Low negative affect moves through the same friction with less residual tension.

    Why it matters at Mappa

Negative affect is among the more consistent correlates of job dissatisfaction in the published literature, which makes it a genuinely useful baseline signal, not just a mood check.

Find out how much tension you actually carry day to day.
