Assessment instruments

  • CFQAssessment instruments

CFQ is a published instrument measuring everyday lapses of attention and memory: the small slips of a normally functioning mind, not clinical impairment.

    SourceBroadbent, D. E., Cooper, P. F., FitzGerald, P., & Parkes, K. R. (1982). British Journal of Clinical Psychology, 21(1).

    Ordinary lapses, not ability

Everyone loses their train of thought occasionally, misplaces something, or forgets why they walked into a room. CFQ measures how often these ordinary lapses happen for a given person, providing a single, consistent read on everyday cognitive load rather than testing raw cognitive ability.

    How it shows up

Someone high on cognitive failures might double-check details more often, not because they lack the ability, but because they've learned their own baseline for slips and compensate for it.

    Why it matters at Mappa

CFQ addresses whether someone delivers what the role requires, one of the five conditions behind a hire that lasts. It's most relevant where small errors carry real cost, since it's a read on everyday reliability, not intelligence.
