A fusion model is the part of a system that combines two or more separate sources of information into a single prediction, rather than relying on any one of them alone.

    Weighing both sources

In a voice-based system, the two most useful sources of information about a person are rarely identical: what they said carries different signal than how they said it. A fusion model doesn't pick one or average them together. It learns how to weigh and combine both, so the final prediction draws on whichever source is more informative for a given trait, moment, or person.

    How it shows up

Two systems reading the same recording, one using only content and one using only delivery, would each miss something the other one catches. A fusion model is built specifically to not have to choose.

    Why it matters at Mappa

Our pipeline reads two channels from every conversation, an audio encoder for how something was said and a text encoder for what was said, and a fusion model combines both into the final trait prediction. Neither channel alone is used.
