  • Harmonics-to-noise ratioSpeech & model terms

Harmonics-to-noise ratio, or HNR, measures the balance between the periodic harmonic part of a voice signal and non-periodic noise.

    Part of Vocal signals

    How it shows up

A clearer, more resonant voice tends to have higher HNR; a breathier or rougher voice tends to have lower HNR.

    Why it matters

HNR summarizes something otherwise hard to describe precisely: how clear a voice sounds.
