Assessment instruments

  • AwarenessAssessment instruments

Awareness is how readily someone notices and identifies what they're feeling, in the moment, rather than after the fact.

    Part of DERS

    The most basic capacity

It's the most basic of the six capacities: you can't regulate an emotion you haven't registered. Someone low in awareness may act on a feeling well before they'd be able to name it.

    How it shows up

High awareness catches irritation building before it turns into a sharp comment. Low awareness often finds out it was irritated only after the comment's already out.

    Why it matters at Mappa

Awareness is the entry point for everything else in emotion regulation. Without it, the other five capacities have nothing to work with.
