Assessment instruments

  • Self-control strategiesAssessment instruments

This facet measures whether someone actively uses strategies, planning ahead, removing temptation, setting reminders, to support their own self-control, rather than relying on willpower alone.

    Part of MSCS

    Structure beats raw willpower

The people who look most disciplined are often not the ones with the strongest raw willpower, but the ones who've built a structure that needs less of it.

    How it shows up

High use of strategies sets up the conditions for success in advance, scheduling focus time, removing distractions before they become a problem. Low use relies on resisting temptation in the moment, which is a harder way to win the same fight.

    Why it matters at Mappa

This facet often explains why two people with similar underlying impulse control produce very different results in practice.
